Anger Management Classes: What Celebrities Can Teach Us
It seems every week there’s another news story about a celebrity who flies into a rage, assaults someone and gets sentenced to take anger management classes? The reality is most people -celebrities included – never learned good anger control techniques and nearly everyone could benefit from learning new skills. Anger management classes simply teach the relationship skills that were never spelled out for us in school.
What are some of the topics you might discuss in an anger control course?
First you will learn to take responsibility for your actions. No one forced you to snap at your spouse. You did it because you chose to. Perhaps it felt like you didn’t know what else to do. Anger classes will teach you how to get your anger under control and help you choose from a variety of possible options to respond -not react-to the situation.
Another thing anger classes often focus on are communication skills. In order to be a good communicator, however, you have to first know yourself well enough to understand your own needs and feelings so that you can express them to others. Say what you need and feel -without judging or attacking-and you stand a much better chance at resolving the conflict in a more productive manner.
This may sound like a lot to remember, especially when you’re in the heat of the moment but the key to anger control is practice. Think of it this way: anger classes teach skills like anything else that must be perfected through regular practice.
It’s unlikely that the lives of celebrities are any more anger-inducing than yours or mine but when we hear about them flying out of control it’s a good reminder that anger management is something most of us can use help with. Anger management classes are great resources for everyone looking to build healthier, happier relationships.
