Anger Classes – What to Expect

by Dr. Joe James on August 19, 2010

Any of the anger classes you might be considering taking will tell you that issues with uncontrollable anger begin at a very young age, and the issue is compounded, snowballed, into a more serious issue as time passes. It’s a gradual thing that evolves, in other words. And the flip side to that is that you can get rid of right away. And so if you all of a sudden, wake up and realize that you’re having anger management issues, part of that first phase is getting over the shock of the fact that you will have settle in, because it’s going to be something that you have to tackle over the longer haul. There are several sources to anger, and several types of anger classes – an online class being one of the most popular of late.

There’s no way around it: anger classes involve a learning process so there will be false starts. When this happens you may feel as if you have failed the anger management.  Not so, you have to roll with the mistakes, learn from them pick yourself back up, and most of all: you have to approach anger classes with an open mind and be willing to shed any preconceived ideas that you may have about yourself or other because they have not been serving you well or you wouldn’t be looking for help.

If you’re starting court ordered anger management classes, or a variety of other online classes, expect yourself to be a bit resistant to the idea.  That’s fine. “You’re cool; this program’s not. Fine.” But you’re there for one thing: you. Because if you don’t get a grip, you could end up losing your friends, your family, even your freedom, if you get physical and end up doing something completely drastic.

This is a serious thing. It’s not just about you being politically incorrect; it’s more than that. There are some grave offenses that are brought on by the mismanagement of anger. You’ve had some losses or you wouldn’t be reading this right now.  An online class can help.
